FCPS Info:
Student Work Permit Procedures

Effective September 17, 2008, the new process for gaining a student work permit has changed. The student must now go online to Maryland's Division of Labor website, print out a work permit application, and complete the other instructions before bringing the necessary materials to an Issuing Officer.

Follow these procedures to obtain a Maryland Student Work Permit:

1. Visit Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation
2. Scroll down the site page and locate the Minor Work Permit link under the Quick Links section.
3. Print out a hard copy of this Work Permit Application.
4. Complete the section entitled "To the Minor" on the application.
5. Take the application to the employer. The employer must complete and sign the "To the Employer" section.
6. A parent or guardian must review, date, and sign the application.
7. Return to the website (above) and input all information online as derived from steps 4, 5, and 6. Use the data collected on the hard copy application. Click "Save" button upon completion of online application.
8. Print the application receipt which will be emailed to the student applicant.
9. Bring the Work Permit Application and the application receipt to an Issuing Officer with FCPS. For homeschool students, bring required items Student Services personnel with FCPS: Cathy Zier, Secretary; Janet Noffsinger, Homeschool Monitor.

What happens next?
The Issuing Officer verifies application data and approves the work permit. The work permit is printed and signed by the Issuing Officer which is then given to the student applicant. The student then gives the employer the approved work permit. The Issuing Officer files a hard copy of the application.
