We are very excited to announce that registration
for the 27th Annual Frederick County
Science & Engineering Fair will be online this
year!
The dates for this year's fair are Friday and
Saturday, March 28-29, 2008. The middle and high school divisions will be
held at
Walkersville
Middle
School (note the change of venue this year).
The fair will be open to the public on Saturday
from approximately
2-4:30pm.
Registration
and Documentation Information
To register, visit
www.fcpsteach.org.
Registration will be open Monday,
March 3 through
Friday,
March 14, 2008
at 4pm. Students will receive instant confirmation
of their registration. All participants will need to
submit to the Secondary Science Office -- by Friday,
March 14 at 4pm -- all necessary ISEF forms.
The cover page must be a printed copy of the online
confirmation page. In addition, high school
participants must submit -- with their application
forms -- a signed copy of the attached
document.
In the event that the student would qualify for a
trip to the ISEF, Intel requires verification that
an outside agency (not parents) agree to sponsor the
cost for the student and chaperone (typically an
average of $1500 each).
Science Fair Parameters
Students will be required to
set
up
their projects on Friday evening between
5:30-7:30pm. They must
meet with judges
Saturday morning
from 9am-12pm.
They must remove
projects by 5pm on
Saturday evening.
A one page abstract is mandatory on all high
school projects (and recommended for middle
school). The display may include charts, posters,
graphs, diagrams, models, explanations, and
photographs. Projects must be “stand alone” and
limited to 24 inches deep, 48 inches wide, and 72
inches high. The display area is limited to the area
in front of the project board and the actual board.
Students must provide their own extension cord if
electricity is needed. Experiments that harm
organisms (with the exception of bacteria and
viruses) will not be permitted. The use of
protista and invertebrates is encouraged for most
research involving living organisms. When vertebrate
animals are used, strict adherence to the rules of
the International Science and Engineering Fair,
which includes teacher-supervisor certification and
an animal-care supervisor is required. No live
animals may be exhibited at the county fair. This
is in agreement with ISEF rules. Photographs and
other visual presentations are encouraged.
