Current Statistics for Homeschooling

Recently, the FCPS' Office of Student Services announced that 1695 students were homeschooled in Frederick County (2007). As of  May 2007, FCPS officials monitor 948 homeschool students; 747 students are monitored through umbrella groups. Although 2007 numbers are not completely tallied for the entire State of Maryland, there were 24,329 total students homeschooling in 2006. According to Gary Marple, home instruction monitor with FCPS, "...there seems to be an increase in homeschoolers each year."

Homeschoolers Use the Following Approach/es for Teaching...
25% teach the Unschooling Method (Charlotte Mason)
25% teach the Activities Method (Konos, Weaver, etc.)
20% teach the Classical Method (Well Trained Mind, etc.)
45% teach the Traditional Method (textbooks - Abeka)
30% teach the Literature Method (Sonlight, etc.)
20% teach with a blend of the above, eclectic, or accelerated
