Recently, the FCPS' Office of Student Services announced that 1695 students
were homeschooled in Frederick County (2007). As of May 2007, FCPS officials monitor
948 homeschool students; 747 students are
monitored through umbrella groups. Although 2007 numbers are not
completely tallied for the entire State of Maryland, there were 24,329 total
students homeschooling in 2006. According to Gary Marple, home
instruction monitor with FCPS, "...there
seems to be an increase in homeschoolers each year."
