The
Torchlight Players, a group of homeschool students from Frederick and Carroll
counties, are preparing to entertain the masses with a double feature.
First is an adaptation of the children’s classic, Pinocchio. Brother Vincent
Vivian, a Brother at St. Anthony's Shrine in Ellicott city with 46
years experience in theater, has adapted this charming tale for the
elementary and middle schoolers to perform. Come share the joys and trials of becoming a
“real boy” in Pinnochio.
Next,
teen from Torchlight Players are proud to be the first to bring to the stage
"Ruby's Pearl" - Brother Vincent's original work. It regales the story of a
teenage boy who is suffering from a brain tumor. After Michael collapses at a
basketball game, his family gathers in the waiting room at the hospital to await
news. While the audience watches, the strained relationships between family
members slowly start to unravel. Despite the best efforts of two doctors,
Michael isn't getting any better. Amidst the angst appears Ruby, an eccentric,
elderly woman who is convinced she is on a pleasure cruise. The family begins to
react to Ruby and slowly what was falling apart begins to mend. Ruby is an
Alzheimer’s patient isn't she? Or is she an angel sent to heal broken
relationships? Whoever Ruby is, with a Goth brother, a distant father, an
anxious mother, and two bickering aunts, Ruby has her work cut out for her. The
result of her efforts will become Ruby's Pearl.
