As home schooling parents, we are always looking for ways to tie in real life to our studies. We met Gwen, a missionary from Sierra Leone and my husband’s distant cousin, who attended a relative's 90^th birthday party. As we introduced our children, the word missionary came to life before their eyes. Having read about missionaries, our children saw that they are real people doing real things for God’s Kingdom. We enjoyed talking with Gwen about Africa and her mission there.

Four months later, we received an email from Gwen. She was sharing about the “Transformation Education” program in Sierra Leone with a group in Philadelphia, PA. She wondered if I knew of any groups around me who she could share the information with. Two groups immediately came to mind: TLC Homeschool Cooperative and our church. Our church, in support of Gwen and her mission, invited her to share with our congregation on December 9, 2007. As she shared the need for curriculum and reading books, (you guessed it) the Home School Community came to mind.

Would you be willing to donate used curriculum and reading books? We are collecting Christian based Language Arts and Math curriculum up to 6^th grade level, and Christian reading books of all levels. Resource books and Christian literature and/or videos that would be encouraging for teachers would be helpful as well.

I am currently collecting for the mission. If interested, please drop off materials on Fridays during the TLC Co-op classes (running 10am to 2:30pm) now through March 14, 2008. The classes are held at the Frederick Church of Christ located at 1305 North Market Street in Frederick, Maryland. Enter at the back of the building/upstairs. There will be a box in the hall. If you are not able to take the books to the Church at the times specified, please call Carol at 301-874-3016 to make other arrangements.
