Dear Homeschool Frederick!,

We're interested in learning what scholarships might be available to my high school homeschooler. Where would you suggest we look?

Thanks,
Janet

Dear Janet,
As a scholarship seeker, you will have to do a little online digging. However, two links that can be of great assistance includes Frederick County Public Schools and The Community Foundation of Frederick County. The key, though, is to check all year - not just in the fall or spring. Scholarships can be added any time of year, so it would be helpful to check back often. Also, some scholarships are not available to homeschoolers, so read the fine print.

The Community Foundation of Frederick County is a recognized leader in providing scholarships to area students, made possible by generous donors who establish funds, or add to existing funds, at the Community Foundation. For the 2007-2008 academic year alone, the Community Foundation awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to area students. You can find information here about the Community Foundation or by calling 301-695-7660.

Frederick County Public Schools recently updated their website. Complete scholarship information can be located online. You'll find the Scholarships Handbook which lists available scholarships. New scholarships updated and listed periodically. Sift to locate one where homeschoolers may apply. You'll find other links for locating additional scholarship opportunities outside the FCPS site.

Thanks for the great question and good luck!

Sincerely,
HSF! Staff
