Dear Homeschool Frederick!,

Sometimes companies offer rebates or prizes to school children. For homeschool children, we often need to "prove" that we homeschool in order to participate. What document do you suggest we use to show some sort of "proof" that we homeschool?

Thanks,
Paula G.

Dear Paula,

Excellent question, Paula. If you are monitored under the Frederick County Public Schools, you can simply use the annual greetings letter as proof of enrollment in home schooling in Frederick County. You can show this letter to vendors for prizes, discounts, or special consideration at their business. This annual greetings letter usually arrives in August from the monitoring staff at Frederick County Student Services. If you need further proof or if an organization requires additional verification, contact the fine folks at Frederick County for confirmation of your homeschool status.

There are other documents that should also provide additional verification. If you belong to a national homeschool-related organization (i.e. HSLDA), you could present your identification card to help verify your family's homeschooling endeavors. If you are monitored under an umbrella group, contact your umbrella group coordinator for documentation -- like the identification card -- which should help seal the deal.

Thanks for your great question!

Sincerely,
HSF! Staff
