Classical ConversationsHomeschool Cooperatives and Umbrella Organizations
Classical Conversations is a growing national classical education program for grades K-12, with chapters in the Frederick area. It recognizes three stages of learning: 1) Grammar stage--memorizing facts; 2) Dialectic stage--discovering how facts relate; and 3) Rhetoric stage--applying facts. It includes three programs: Foundations for grades K-6, Essentials for grades 3-6; and Challenge for grades 7-12. The Challenge level fulfills high school credits in the state of Maryland. Each community meets once a week, is led by trained parent-tutors who model the classical tools of learning, and equips parents through regular Parent Practicums. Individual instruction for students, ages 6 through adult and at any level, in piano, voice, guitar, brass, strings, woodwinds and percussion. Students may choose 13 half-hour, 45-minute, or hour-long sessions. An additional week is reserved for recitals. Students provide their own practice instruments. Students under the age of 6 may study with permission of instructor. Prior to registration, students should call the instructor for availability and individual lesson scheduling.
