As of May 2011, there were 2312 homeschooled students in Frederick County.
To meet Maryland's supervision requirements, homeschoolers may opt to have FCPS' Department of Student Services monitor the progress of their homeschooled children.
Last year, homeschool families choosing local monitoring through FCPS met with a new Home School Instruction Monitor. Ms. Janet Noffsinger. An additional monitor, Ms. Laura Ritchie joined the team in 2011 to assist with the increasing number of homeschooled students.
At least 15 days before beginning any home schooling program, the parent/guardian should contact the FCPS Home School Instruction Monitor for copies of the:
- Home Schooling Notification Form, and
- Home Schooling Regulations (COMAR 13A.10.01)
Remember that the regulations for all homeschoolers are contained within the Maryland law. A local school system may not impose additional requirements for home instruction programs other than those in these regulations.
