How to Receive Possible Credit When
Re-Enrolling in a FCPS High School

According to Frederick County Public Schools, it is possible to receive credit through regulation when enrolling in Frederick County Public Schools. County Regulation 400-49 clearly outlines the process for high school-age home school students who re-enroll in the FCPS system.

Essentially, a committee assesses, reviews, and awards credit. For home school students planning on entering the school environment, the student's portfolio should include all of the materials used to complete the course, i.e., samples of the student's work for all chapters and/or sections of the materials use to compete the course, as well as any transcripts from an approved correspondence course.

The review team may administer summative Criterion-Referenced Evaluation System (CRES) Assessments as well as consider any available results of State-Mandated Assessments, as appropriate, to assist in determining credits to be awarded towards High School Graduation. Maryland students taking Eng 10, Government, Alg 1/ Data analysis, Biology, and Geometry are required to pass the High School Assessment (HSA) for each of the aforementioned classes.

However, home school students completing these courses while homeschooling, though awarded credit through the review committee, are not required to take the HSAs.
